Recreational swimsuits made from normal fabric may experience noticable wear and tear when exposed to chlorinated water and therefore they are not recommended for frequent or prolonged use in chlorinated aquatic environments. High tech racing fabrics are generally a chlorine resistance rating of 1/5 as they are specifically designed for competitive swimwear and generally do not undergo any treatments for chlorine resistance, but rather treatments for water repellancy.
