It's official...Michael Klim has joined swimming legends Thorpe, Huegill, Trickett by announcing his return to competitive swimming. Klim is hoping to make his fourth Olympic Games Team as part of the 4 x 100 metres freestyle relay. However, if his preparations go to plan he might be back swimming his main event the 100m butterfly.
If Ian Thorpe and Michael Klim qualify for the Games, the mens 4 x 100m freestyle relay team will be as strong as it was back in 2000 when the Aussies smashed those guitar rocking Americans right out the water. There's no doubt that Klims comeback will be a tough one, with child number three on the way and being one of the eldest swimmers at age 33, Klim certainly has a few challenges ahead. But if anyone knows what hard work is, it's Klim. Having battled shoulder injuries in the past, he says his body has had some time out to rest and his new training regime means his shoulders are not under as much stress as they were prior to his retirement.
Klim will swim a time trial on the 26th February, but won't be able to compete at a FINA event for another 9mths.
