AUSTRALIAN SWIMMERS FURIOUS AFTER OLYMPIC GAMES TICKET ALLOCATION LEAVES THEM CHOOSING BETWEEN MUM AND DAD
03.03.11
Australian swimmers competing at the London 2012 Olympic Games will have a hard time choosing who gets the ticket to see them swim…will it be Mum and Dad?
Last week the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) announced that tickets for the London 2012 Olympic Games will go on sale on Tuesday 15 March 2011 and Paralympic Games tickets will go on sale on Friday 9 September 2011. However, members of the public won’t be the only ones scrambling for tickets.
After announcing the ticket allocation procedures to the public the London Organising Committee announced the ticket allocations for the families of athletes competing at the games. In what has been called a ‘huge kick in the guts’ Australian Swimmers found out their ticket allocation for the games is 1. Previously swimmers were allocated two tickets for family members which meant that swimmers had to resort to other means to purchase more tickets. Now they will have a hard time choosing who will see them swim at the Olympics...mum, dad, husband, wife, children?
The reason for the one ticket allocation to the swimming are unclear however, in the past tickets to the swimming have been highly sought after and it is likely that the demand for tickets to the 17,000 seat aquatic venue is part of the reason behind the decision. Whatever the reason may be, it seems that the world of swimming has experienced its fair share of controversy with the lead up to the games including the FINA Approved Swimsuits debate last year and now the one ticket allocation per swimmer.
